I Seriously have NO motivation!
Alright, We've heard it all before and you know what? I'm guilty of it too! I catch myself using this excuse more often than I'd like to admit, but it's true. I often have people asking WHERE on earth do I find my motivation?! Well the best answer I have been able to give is that I want it bad enough that I don't question, I just do. I make working out and eating healthy a non-negotiable in my life. It's important to me and I just do it. After a while it truly does become a habit and a hell of a lot easier! However, I realize that this isn't proactive advice for people who are asking! Sorry folks!
- DIG DEEP: Identify what it is that drives you every day to get out of bed. Maybe it’s your kiddos or a career that completely fulfills you. THEN put some thought into how being healthier would enhance that part of your life. You’ll be able to be more active with your kids – or you’ll miss less work and be more productive if you’re not sick, tired, and worn out. Make that emotional connection and then WRITE IT DOWN. and POST it where you will see it as a reminder through out the day!
- GET CONNECTED. Whether it’s finding a gym buddy, joining online forums, a workout buddy on your lunch hour, or a challenge group online it helps to have a support system in place. My challengers unite on facebook, twitter, and posts with recipes and motivation, as well as my blog!
- TREAT YOURSELF! Nothing invigorates workouts sometimes like a new pair of running shoes or even just a few new songs from iTunes. (would you like to know what I listen to? - Let me know in the comments below!) Set small, challenging - yet attainable weekly goals, and then reward yourself for reaching them so you stay motivated daily to reach each weekly goal. My suggestion is that your reward not be food based, maybe a new song on your workout play list or points that build up to a bigger reward of a new yoga mat, or shoes. BONUS: doing nice things for yourself makes you happy – and happy people make healthy choices. ;-)
- FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE. Always thinking about how many pounds you have to lose or dwelling on the dessert you scarfed down last weekend? These negative thoughts will only derail your future success. Instead of thinking about the 6 more lbs you want to lose, give yourself credit for the 3 you've already lost or rather than focusing on the desert that you ate, give yourself props for waking up the next day and going for a nice long walk. Positive people and positive thoughts/behaviors breeds success!
I hope these are helpful hints to help you find your motivation! Have any other helpful hints that you find help you keep the motivation? Sound off below in the comments!
